Mediation and collaborative law
Family mediation and assessment meetings (MIAMs)
From 6 April 2011 most applicants for a court order relating to children (private law) or finances have to attend a Mediation Information Assessment Meeting. These have to be conducted by a mediator who meets the criteria set by the Family Mediation Council not otherwise involved in the issues between the parties. The assessment is for suitability for mediation and will cover such topics as domestic and family violence, vulnerability, the nature of the dispute, alternatives to litigation, urgency and financial eligibility for public funding, amongst many points. We offer this service for clients of other firms and we are able to see persons individually or in couples at our central London location. Naturally, if the matter is suitable for mediation and the parties agree, subsequently we are able to offer all-issues mediation.
